Counseling is the bedrock in overcoming substance dependency, and at North Fulton Treatment Center, we understand that each patient is unique. Substance dependency counseling is about breaking through the patient’s psyche and attempting to understand the choices and decisions that resulted in his or her substance dependency. Once that breakthrough is achieved, recovery can begin.
When approaching counseling, there are various methods and ways of coping with the problem.
One-on-one counseling with a therapist is a vital part of overcoming substance dependency. At NFTC, all the therapists have a master’s degree and/or are fully licensed in the area of counseling. When an individual first begins one-on-one therapy, the initial hurdle is the creation of trust between the individual and the therapist. Individuals with dependency problems typically explore with the therapist the process whereby they reached this point in their lives. This, like any other form of counseling, cannot be rushed.
Family counseling can provide vital information to the individual and to his or her family. It allows the family as a whole to address any underlying issue. By addressing family issues, the family as a whole can begin to heal and assist the individual who is seeking treatment in obtaining and maintaining a normal life. At times, this can be a difficult process for all parties involved, but in the long run, the family as a whole will be better off for it.
Group counseling is encouraged as a part of treatment at North Fulton Treatment Center, but is not mandatory. We recognize group sessions as powerful tools in overcoming substance dependency and aiding personal progression. Group sessions can be a brilliant and life-changing support mechanism, as it allows individuals to slowly open up about their past experiences and share their stories, as well as hear others. It can be reassuring for individuals, especially early on in their recovery, to learn that their stories are not unique.
Individual therapy is the preferred method at NFTC. We recognize the importance of confidentiality and understand that not all individuals with opiate dependency want to disclose that they are in treatment.
At the North Fulton Treatment Center, we pride ourselves in the counseling programs we offer to our patients. With over eighteen years of experience, we understand that opiate dependency is a serious problem, and we are here to help.
North Fulton Treatment Center’s main goal is to help eliminate the destructive behaviors that lead to your dependency. Our therapists work one-on-one with you to find the root of your dependency and help you transition to a healthier life. Although the medication helps with the physical withdrawals of opiate dependency, counseling is part of program that helps you with the psychological aspects. This program takes time and patience, but the results are worth the healthy lifestyle you will live during and after the completion of the program.
